so i want to give a big round of applause to anne marie. as everybody in the room knows she's a force of nature and that's all i have to say and to futures without violence and for this beautiful facility. we got support from the school district and various people and terrific from the mayor's office and of course the mayor and the bully project. we couldn't be more grateful. from the san francisco police department from greg sir to denise flair erty and cheryl jennings and the girl friday and kept us moving all day and to the communications that we got the word out through the media and laura who kept us moving today and financial support. if you read about the justice department in the paper you know we can't pay for anything. when people come to my office quite literally i can't give them coffee. people think the government is high flying and i am here to tell you it's not true. there was support for this event and we couldn't be more grateful to the people that made this possible and the rosenberg foundation and they are here, the san f

mary's hospital. our familiarity with the county and government starts from the very day that the sisters of mercy, who came over from ireland, got off on a clipper ship down by north beach. within a day, they got a knock on their door where they were staying. it was members of the san francisco board of supervisors who came to ask them to open san francisco general hospital, which they did. they ran it for four years until a very familiar thing happened, and that was the county board of supervisors had a dispute about how to pay health care bills. the sisters said we've had enough of that and went on to create st. mary's hospital. as you can see, very familiar with how the city works. even then, over 150 years. it is an important issue. we're glad to be able to provide it. we're glad to be able to be here and to recognize some super creative people and the super creative programs. the committee which reviewed folks and review projects had a tough time picking who should be chosen and who should be re

[cheers and applause] you know how you read in the paper about most famous folks in technology? there are those names, right? those companies and those names we read about every day. but we should all hope for having one of those famous people in our lives, and that is to marie and judy really are. these other two women who i think single-handedly moved me into social networking, kicking and fighting the hallway. because i was not born into technology. i really had to be dragged there. but these two women have really seen the relevance of what social media, what technology can do for all of us, this ability really to connect us, to make sure that we do not miss our families in another part of the world. they have managed to figure out ways that, when it comes to budget time, to use it in the most effective way. again, if you see marie or judy today, because i do not think any -- there in the room -- there is judy. a round of applause for judy. one of them was mary louise green. dave ebberly -- you haven't heard that name. he was the guy bouncing around and i found out he was the volunteer driver of the emergency vehicle that we had which was parked in a fire house at the other end of the city and get a call at 2:00 o'clock in the morning and get in that vehicle, and i later learned -- i'm sorry dave. i didn't understand at the time. it was manual transmission and manual brakes and i wish i could have hired him and he he is and somebody was smart enough to bring him with when they had sufficient funds. i was assisted by the young turks and the police department. i had deputy sheriffs come here on a first exercise and said "admiral we like what you're doing. we're off duty. can we provide security for you?" . that's the kind of stuff that happened. it was actually amazing. i had a guy came in here kind of pushy. he started giving me communications advice. somebody said "oh god you don't want to deal with that guy. he's a guy activist. a pain in the neck" and let me follow you something i lived my whole l
